A Sincere Advice to Ahlus-Sunnah: Taking a Firm, United Stance Against Arafat and Co.

“Salafīs in every place who value and venerate the Salafī methodology take a clear, open, united, uncompromising, galvanizing stance towards this errant approach and its practitioners—as it is harmful and destructive—in order to prevent further weakening of the daʿwah and erosion of Salafī unity. Therafter, when this harmful, toxic pollution has been cleared from the air, whatever differences and contentions Salafīs may have between themselves in other affairs can be easily resolved with Allāh’s permission and success.”

It honestly makes you reflect—you see everyday Salafi sisters holding their ground, standing firmly with the truth and doing absolutely everything they can to aid it. Yet, you look at some of our doctors, our university graduates, and the brothers who actually sit with the scholars, and it’s like they’ve completely lost the ability to tell right from wrong.

The people of Sunnah and justice expect more from these brothers. We expect them to step up and take a real, principled stand like men. Nobody is asking anyone to just pick a team—this isn’t a game. It’s simply about the truth. Whoever has the truth, that is who we stand with. It really is that simple.

Allah the Most High said:

﴾…قَالَتْ نَمْلَةٌ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّمْلُ ادْخُلُوا مَسَاكِنَكُمْ﴿

“An ant said, ‘O ants, enter your dwellings…'”

قَالَ ابْنُ بَادِيسَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ: عِظَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ: هَذِهِ نَمْلَةٌ وَفَّتْ لِقَوْمِهَا، وَأَدَّتْ نَحْوَهُمْ وَاجِبَهَا! فَكَيْفَ بِالْإِنْسَانِ الْعَاقِلِ فِيمَا يَجِبُ عَلَيْهِ نَحْوَ قَوْمِهِ!؟
هَذِهِ عِظَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ لِمَنْ لَا يَهْتَمُّ بِأُمُورِ قَوْمِهِ، وَلَا يُؤَدِّي الْوَاجِبَ نَحْوَهُمْ، وَلِمَنْ يَرَى الْخَطَرَ دَاهِماً لِقَوْمِهِ، فَيَسْكُتُ وَيَتَعَامَى، وَلِمَنْ يَقُودُ الْخَطَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَيَصُبُّهُ بِيَدِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ. آهِ مَا أَحْوَجَنَا مَعْشَرَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ إِلَى أَمْثَالِ هَذِهِ النَّمْلَةِ. [تَفْسِيرُ ابْنِ بَادِيسَ (٢٦٣)]

Ibn Bādīs (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

“A profound lesson: This is an ant that was loyal to its people and fulfilled its duty towards them! So what about the rational human being regarding his duty towards his own people!?

This is a profound lesson for those who neither care about the affairs of their people nor fulfill their duty towards them. It is a lesson for the one who sees imminent danger approaching his people, yet remains silent and turns a blind eye, and for the one who actively leads danger to them and brings it down upon them with his own hands. Oh, how much we Muslims need the likes of this ant.”

Shaykh Rabīʿ (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:

قَالَ الشَّيْخُ رَبِيعٌ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ: [لَا نَقُولُ أَغْمِضُوا أَعْيُنَكُمْ وَارْكُضُوا وَرَاءَنَا، بَلْ نَقُولُ ادْرُسُوا بِفَهْمٍ وَعَقْلٍ وَوَعْيٍ، وَقَارِنُوا بِصِدْقٍ وَإِخْلَاصٍ] [(الْمَجْمُوعُ الرَّائِقُ صَفْحَةُ ٢١٥)]

“We do not say, ‘Close your eyes and run blindly behind us.’ Rather, we say, ‘Study with understanding, intellect, and awareness, and compare with honesty and sincerity.'” [Al-Majmūʿ al-Rāʾiq, p. 215]

A Beautiful Benefit: Just as the ant is tiny yet provided immense aid to its dwelling, Allah might aid Ahlus-Sunnah through a layman—a seemingly unknown Salafis from a remote area—in ways you cannot even imagine. Oh, how much we Muslims need the likes of this ant!

Yet, at the same time, Allah might test you with someone you know—someone who possesses strength, popularity, and influence—who completely forsakes his brothers. Even when he sees imminent danger approaching the people of Sunnah, he chooses silence, turns a blind eye, or worse, leads the danger right to them and brings it down upon them with his own hands.
